Caught a C-5 from Ramstein Air Force Base to McGuire Air Force Base on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Nice ride, Air Force. Thank you.
Ramstein was very backed up when we arrived late Wednesday night Oct 7, 2015. There were about 300 people in the terminal. Some people told us they had been looking for a ride back to the US since the previous Saturday. The back up was caused, they said, because a number of C-5's had maintenance problems, the Patriot Express was delayed, and because of the upcoming 4 day weekend.
Two C-5's and the Patriot Express cleared out about 1/2 of the personnel on Thursday. We caught the C-5 early friday morning to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.
You meet so many nice people on these flights. We had dinner with Navy Captain Joe Harrison in Ramstein. We flew together on the C-5 the next day, then he gave us a ride to Philadelphia to get a ride home. Thanks Joe.
This completed our around the world trip which we made up as we went.
We made this trip up as we went along. We left Sarasota, Florida to visit our daughter in Washington State - Seattle and the western mountains. We then had options to fly Space A to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and Korea. We chose Korea and had a nice time there. Beth and I have always loved Hong Kong and since it was nearby we thought we would go.
Then we were close to Angkor Wat and Bangkok, so we flew there. We had never seen Angkor Wat, so we flew there. Then on to an old favorite, Bangkok. We were then about 1/2 way around the world. Rapperswil, Switzerland and Sarasota, Florida are considering becoming Sister Cities. Beth is President and I am a Vice President of Sarasota Sister Cities. Rapperswil wanted us to visit, so we flew there. Then on to Ramstein and the trip home.
