Bill was a Marine fighting in the Pacific when Serena and Beth were born and did not know about them. They were very kind to invite the sisters to their family reunion.

Beth and Serena were both adopted and raised as only children. In their 60's they both filed with the Georgia Adoption Agency within one month, and found each other. They have developed a close sister relationship. Their story at:

They learned a great deal about their maternal ancestry, but knew nothing about their father.
Beth took a DNA test with Ancestry.com and found a number of cousins including cousin Stacy Cole who understands DNA and genealogy very well. Beth's maternal cousins Dorothy Roberts and Mary Bagwell had taken an Ancestry test and correctly showed up as first cousins to Beth. Stacy was not related to Dorothy and Mary and therefor must be on the paternal side.
Stacy helped Beth try to find the father by examining genealogy and trying to find an individual who was the right age and who would have been in the right place. But we were not sure if we had found the right person.
Then Ancestry.com showed a new connection, Gordenia Murdoch, who is very close genetically and is likely either a half sister or an aunt. The relationship was too close to be a cousin. It is very likely that Gordenia and Beth and Serena share their father.
